Abstract
Epicharm’s dramata on Herakles appear contextual to Hieron’s tyranny cultural climate. A comparison between Epicharm’s and Pindar’s use of identical mythical themes connected to Herakles in the same milieu (that of the Dinomenid court of Syracuse) brings to light some Epicharmean modalities of mythical matter’s selection and rielaboration. This allows one to conjecture any aspects of Epicharm’s dramaturgy as well as to assume that his mythical dramas were not just entertainement pieces, but that they also allusively (and sometimes critically) mirrored particular events in the Syracusan history.
