Abstract
The fragment 487 K.-A. of Aristophanes’ fragmentary comedy, Σκηνὰς καταλαµβάνουσαι, shows, through careful analysis, the wit of the playwright and the ability to generate a comic pointe. The text displays a mockery of women’s wine passion through an unusual use of λήκυϑος, a traditional vase for oils and ointments, reaching a comic effect which the poet achieves as an able linguistic “creator”.
