Abstract
Oggetto di questo saggio è uno studio sulla presenza della tradizione classica in La migliore offerta – The Best Offer(2013), un film scritto e diretto da Giuseppe Tornatore e interpretato da Geoffrey Rush. In primo luogo si indaga il significato di nomi, inquadrature e, soprattutto, di alcune opere d’arte, per poi analizzare l’uso di alcune strutture della tragedia greca, strutture abilmente impiegate per aumentare la tensione e rafforzare l’identificazione con il personaggio principale. Segue poi una discussione sulla trama e si cerca di mostrare la presenza di un ipotesto che accresce il significato e il valore della storia. Alla fine si discute il rapporto analogico che viene istituito tra i personaggi del film e gli spettatori del film.
This article aims at examining the value of the classical tradition in La migliore offerta – The Best Offer (2013), an Italian film written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, starring Geoffrey Rush. Firstly, the author investigates the functions played by names, frames, and, above all, several works of art in the development of the plot. Then, she devotes attention to the use of the Greek tragedy and other ancient texts that are cleverly exploited to intensify the tension and strenghten the identification with the main character. Furthermore, she analyzes the plot trying to show the subtext which contributes to enhance the deep meaning of the movie. Finally, the author discusses the analogies from a cinematic point of view between the characters and the viewers of this movie.
