Abstract
In the prologue of the Seven at Thebes Eteocles announces to the Chorus that an enemy army is approaching the city. The new formations πολυρρόθοις, Ἀλεξητήριος, οἰμώγμασιν determine the genus of his speech, which however sounds false, because everyone knows that he is responsible for the war that his brother wages against him. Even the words of the Messenger announcing that seven leaders are advancing at the head of the armies adapt with the choice of terms to the solemnity of the king’s speech and the gravity of the moment.
Nel prologo dei Sette a Tebe Eteocle annuncia al Coro che un esercito nemico si avvicina alla città. Le neoformazioni πολυρρόθοις, Ἀλεξητήριος, οἰμώγμασιν determinano il genus grande del suo discorso, che però suona falso, perché tutti sanno che egli è responsabile della guerra che il fratello gli muove. Anche le parole del Messaggero che annunciano che sette condottieri avanzano a capo degli eserciti si adeguano con la scelta dei termini alla solennità del discorso del re e alla gravità del momento.
