Abstract
Sulla scena tragica vengono sommariamente sviluppate cinque figure di pedagogo: il tutore dei figli di Medea nella Medea di Euripide, i vecchi schiavi nell’Elettra, nello Ione e nelle Fenicie di Euripide e il pedagogo di Oreste nell’Elettra di Sofocle. Tutte queste figure sono rappresentate come cattivi consiglieri: se i vecchi servi nelle due Elettra semplicemente aiutano a pianificare e portare a termine la vendetta e il matricidio, gli altri tre risultano inefficaci, stupidi e anche feroci. Questa rappresentazione negativa è particolarmente interessante da un punto di vista educativo perché sappiamo che a teatro i bambini potevano sedere a fianco del loro pedagogo. Ma la Commedia Nuova sembra aver rimodellato questa immagine.
There are five broadly developed figures of pedagogue on the Greek tragic stage: the tutor of Medea’s children in Euripides’ Medea, the old servants in Euripides’ Electra, Ion, Phoenissae and Orestes’ pedagogue in Sophocles’ Electra. All of them are portrayed as bad counsellors: if the old tutors in the two Electras simply help in planning and carrying out the revenge and the matricide, the three others are ineffective, stupid, and even ferocious. This destroying picture is particularly noteworthy from an educational point of view because we know that in the theatre children could seat aside with their own tutor. But the New Comedy seems to have rectified this image.
