Abstract
The Dutch translation Zeven op Thebe los by the poet Karel van de Woestijne (1878-1929) from Aeschylus’ Seven against Thebes proves to be accurate and personal. The translator uses text of the Tragoediae by Weil (Teubner, 1884) and Les Sept contre Thèbes (Hachette, 1860) – this edition presents the text by Boissonade and an interlinear version by Materne. Van de Woestijne follows in a discontinous manner both editions, and he sometimes agrees with the translation by Materne, sometimes not. He also consults the Dictionnaire grec français by Alexandre. He published his uncompleted version in 1907. This is the first study about that translation, enriched by a recent discovered fragment.
La traduzione nederlandese Zeven op Thebe los del poeta Karel van de Woestijne (1878-1929) dei Sette contro Tebe di Eschilo si rivela molto fedele e personale. Il traduttore si serve del testo delle Tragoediae teubneriane di Weil del 1884 e dell’edizione dei Sept contre Thèbes di Hachette del 1860, la quale presenta il testo di Boissonade e la versione interlineare di Materne. Van de Woestijne segue ora l’una ora l’altra edizione, così come tavolta accetta la versione di Materne e talvolta se ne allontana. Egli consulta inoltre il Dictionnaire grec français di Alexandre. La traduzione, rimasta incompiuta, venne pubblicata nel 1907. Questo è il primo studio su tale traduzione, arricchita dalla recente scoperta di un frammento.
