Abstract 

Nell’arduo tentativo di districare i percorsi dalla scena al libro e dal libro alla scena e il complesso rapporto tra l’evolversi di tradizione performativa e tradizione testuale della commedia e della tragedia greca, si esaminano da una parte le caratteristiche dei libri antichi attraverso i frammenti restituiti dai papiri e i rari casi in cui essi conservano tracce di un possibile uso pratico per la messa in scena, dall’altra alcuni esempi tratti dagli scolî, che mostrano come gli antichi esegeti si confrontassero con il testo che potevano leggere per ricostruire aspetti propri della rappresentazione.

In the arduous attempt to extricate the paths that lead ancient Greek comedy and tragedy from the scene to the book and from the book back to the scene reconstruction, in the framework of the complex relationship between performative tradition and textual tradition, the paper examines on the one hand the characteristics of ancient books as we know them from papyrus fragments and the rare cases in which they return traces of a possible use for the staging, on the other hand examples from the medieval scholia, showing how ancient commentators confronted the text they could read trying to reconstruct on that basis performative aspects of the plays.
