Abstract 

The scholia to Plutus state that lines 290-301 are a parody of Philoxenos of Cythera’s Cyclops, from which Aristophanes allegedly took some literal quotes. This is the ancient interpretation, but it’s possible to argue that the shepherd’s bag and the wild herbs (l. 298) are sexual metaphors that have escaped notice by scholars.

Gli scolî al Pluto affermano che i versi 290-301 sono una parodia del Ciclope di Filosseno di Citera, da cui Aristofane avrebbe tratto diverse citazioni letterali. Questa è l’interpretazione antica, ma è possibile sostenere che la sacca di cuoio e le erbe selvatiche (v. 298) sono metafore  sessuali passate finora inosservate agli studiosi.
