Abstract

In the first half of the 15th century scholars had already finished studying the eight comedies written by Plautus, but not the twelve ones, a bit before discovered, that presented difficulties for what concerned the problems of text diffusion, the new perspectives of literary, philological or simply school studies and the great cultural changes (for example printing), that characterized those years. In this complex and multiform landscape the humanists dealt with the study of this new Plautus, and despite methods not well refined yet, they highlighted the interest inspired by the Latin playwright, who was finally acknowledged as a classical author. From the few examples presented here comes to light the will to give a meaning also to some not clear passages, in spite of those filologic rules that will affirm their presence only at the end of the century and are still today the basis for this kind of studies.
